Regional growth areas across New South Wales continue to present opportunities for design-led masterplanning that supports both community and economic development. As commercial architects based in Sydney, our team is proud to contribute to shaping these emerging precincts through thoughtful, commercially strategic design.
Our recent project on the NSW South Coast reflects this intent—demonstrating how architecture and planning can help unlock value, attract investment, and build sustainable employment hubs.
Furfaro Architects were engaged to develop the masterplan for a new Retail and Bulky Goods Precinct on the NSW South Coast. The project required a commercially viable framework that could respond to the needs of both major anchor tenants and local industry, while establishing a long-term vision for regional employment and growth.
Our experience as commercial and industrial architects informed every aspect of the planning process—balancing the demands of retail, service, and industrial functions within a cohesive site strategy.

The ambition was clear: to create a flexible and future-ready commercial precinct that balanced commercial outcomes with community benefit. The plan envisioned major retailers such as Bunnings and Harvey Norman anchoring a broader ecosystem of medical, service, and light industrial uses—forming a cohesive hub that supports local enterprise and regional accessibility.
From the initial sketch through to the final masterplan, our team worked to deliver a commercially strategic and adaptable design outcome. Each element of the masterplan was considered through the lens of longevity—how the site could evolve, respond to market needs, and foster sustained engagement with both tenants and local councils.
As industrial architects, we focused on spatial efficiency, clear movement networks, and site adaptability—ensuring the development could grow organically while maintaining coherence across its retail and industrial components.
The completed concept has since helped drive tenant commitment, council engagement, and a defined development pathway for the precinct. It stands as a model for how thoughtful architecture and planning can shape commercially robust and community-conscious regional destinations.
We extend our thanks to our client, stakeholders, and the team at Mecone – Urban Planning for their collaborative role in shaping the project’s vision.
